The Ultimate Self-Care Day

by - 10:21 AM

In this day and age, we are all running around like crazy. Kids, pets, jobs, dating, cooking, cleaning, errands, blah, blah, blah, all have us stressed out and forgetting to take time for ourselves. But, it is very important. You cannot give and give to others without recharging your own batteries. You'll end up frazzled and lashing out at people. Trust, I know.

You've got to take care of yourself. You've got to take breaks. You've got to recharge. Sometimes just saying "no" is self-care.

Say it with me: Self-care is not selfish.

Self-care is not selfish.

Self-care is not selfish.

Taking care of yourself can remind you that you are important - because you are. You deserve a break, you deserve to take a load off. I'm not saying have a long spa weekend (unless you can get away with it!), but just an hour or two once a week can make a big difference. And if you can squeeze in a little self-care every day (and that should be the goal!), even better!

These are some of my favorite ways to recharge....

There are very few things a mug of tea of cocoa can't fix. Wrapping your hands around a warm mug of goodness is good for the soul.

If you're like me, take that mug of warmth to the couch or bed - and bring a book!

Reading in general is great for self-care. It's such an escape and really gets me out of my own head and problems.

A long, hot soak in a bath can turn the entire day around! I stay in there as long as possible with salts, bubbles, candles, music (or, if I'm being honest, Hulu on my phone), and (usually) another book.

Treat yo self! Chocolate! All the chocolate! Have a slice of cake, a cupcake, chocolate covered strawberries, or a dozen cookies! Okay, maybe not a whole dozen, but you should definitely have a treat.

Last but certainly not least, my new favorite way of self-care: Water-coloring.

I've only been painting for a couple of weeks but, man, does it get me out of my head or what. I can't wait to get better quality brushes and colors soon!

So, my self-care days usually involve getting warm and reading, but there are so, so many other things you can do!

Hiking
Dancing
Knitting
Meditating
Photography
Journaling
Walking your dog
Napping
Skateboarding
Listening to music
Playing music
 Getting your nails done
Going for a swim
Having a glass of wine
Getting a massage

Whatever you try, please make it a regular thing!

Self-care is not selfish!
